Six former employees of Planned Parenthood Southeast, which operates in Mississippi, have sued the organization alleging wrongful termination after raising concerns that the new CEO sought to deemphasize abortion and distance the affiliate from its pro-abortion mission. The lawsuit claims the CEO aimed to rebrand PPSE's mission to focus less on abortion rights and reduce partnerships with the LGBT community, actions that led to a hostile work environment and the firing of staff who opposed these changes.

Mississippi law defines abortion as the use of any instrument, medicine, or device to terminate a pregnancy with intent other than to increase the probability of a live birth or preserve the life or health of the child after live birth, distinguishing it from procedures like c-sections or emergency deliveries that do not intend to cause fetal death. This legal definition clarifies that abortion involves the deliberate killing of a preborn child, not merely the ending of a pregnancy, countering claims that all pregnancy-ending procedures are abortions.
